The McKenzie Method / Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy Explained

Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) is a philosophy of active patient involvement and education that is trusted and used by practitioners and patients worldwide for back, neck and extremity problems. A proven methodology, the McKenzie Method (MDT) is a non-invasive, self-directed treatment that provides fast and effective relief, even for chronic pain.

It promotes the body’s potential to heal itself without medication, heat, cold, ultrasound, needles, surgery or endless visits to the clinic. An evidence based approach, the key distinction of MDT is its initial assessment component – a safe and reliable means to accurately reach a diagnosis and only then make the appropriate treatment plan.

In your initial evaluation you can expect the session to start with a decent amount of question concerning your pain so I can understand how it behaves.

Next you will be moving around in different directions repeatedly to determine what your back responds to.

We will establish some movement baselines in terms of your movement using a over-arching movement assessment tool known as the SFMA.

Then we will repeatedly take you into the direction identified previously and you will be provided with some exercises for home.

You should expect within the first visit to have improved motion and/or pain and within the first three visits there should be a concrete change.

We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.
